A Collaboration of Poetry and Photography around Portsmouth City Centre

Poetry – Tongues&Grooves

Photography – Janey Devine FRPS

Our city centres are facing huge challenges as we enter a period of economic uncertainty. Shops are closing, there are increasing numbers of people living rough on the streets. New development is changing the identity of our city.

This project puts a spotlight on some of these topics as well as examining issues affecting the people that live and work here.

The monochrome images are deliberately abstract, allowing multiple interpretations by the viewer. The poets have responded with their own interpretation, adding a richness and depth to the work and taking it to a new level.

This collaboration has resulted in a thought provoking body of work, that allows the viewer to reflect on important issues that currently affect our city of Portsmouth.
