General Info

Southsea Community Cinema and Arts Centre is home for Portsmouth Film Society. Our home and programming are designed to adapt to changes in the way people experience art, films, theatre, music and entertainment in the future.

With over 12 years of experience , we strive to break down social barriers by showing culturally sensitive and interesting films and encouraging community participation. We’ve worked with a broad range of organisations and topical experts to provide film education programmes to vulnerable groups including youth groups, substance abuse groups and immigrants.

The Portsmouth Film Society is a unique, not for profit company based in Portsmouth. Our work is carried out by over 25 volunteers, several of whom have professional experience working in film. Our committee and volunteer group comprises adults and students of ten nationalities from three continents.

TO USE ENGLISH AND INTERNATIONAL FILM AS A MEDIUM TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL CULTURE, COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION TO ENCOURAGE BOTH FILM AND DIVERSITY APPRECIATION. BE AN ART HUB FOR OUR CITY.

PFS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

Our vision is an aim to encourage interest in film as a medium for public education, information, and entertainment by means of exhibiting films of artistic, cultural or informative character. We promote the study and appreciation of film by such means as presentations, lectures, discussions and exhibitions. We would like to bring people together to share experiences. We aim to unite different cultures and break down social barriers, celebrating diversity in community. We will also share archive films and artists’ moving images to broaden the community’s engagement.

Southsea Community Cinema is home of Portsmouth Film Society, who operate the building and have a long term lease.

We  are committed to safeguarding all children and vulnerable adults that meet our work.  We endeavour to promote the highest standard of care and have developed our own Safeguarding Policy to support personnel (whether employed or freelance) putting into practice our organisational commitment.  Our policies are reviewed every year.
