It’s almost that time of year again! The days are getting longer, that holiday feeling is drawing closer, the weather is getting warmer (well, marginally) and with the Summer season comes the return of our Sunset Outdoor Cinema! Taking place in a variety of venues across Southsea, the Sunset Outdoor Cinema promises to deliver you all the joy of the big screen with all the warmth of the Summer air. The programme runs from June to August and features a little something for everyone.

On Saturday the 3rd of June, we’ll be screening 2022’s ELVIS at Fort Purbrook. Relive the energy of the legend in his prime with this two-time Oscar nominated biopic. What’s more, after the film, we’ll be hosting an afterparty featuring a laser-light show! How’s that for an electrifying evening?
On Saturday the 10th of June, we’ll be screening 1985’s BACK TO THE FUTURE at Southsea Skatepark. Great Scott! A movie that needs no introduction, there’s no better way to witness this classic feature than in the fresh summer air.
On Saturday the 17th of June, we’ll be screening 2017’s THE GREATEST SHOWMAN at the Butterfly Garden in the Portsmouth Natural History Museum. Come along and sing along to all your favourite hits from the modern musical masterwork.
On Saturday the 24th of June, we’ll be screening MATILDA THE MUSICAL at the Butterfly Garden in the Portsmouth Natural History Museum. This wonderfully whimsical musical is sure to delight kids and grown-ups alike!
Portsmouth Film Society moved to its new house Southsea Community Cinema and Arts Centre almost a year ago. After a year-long battle, the organisation managed to survive with the support of local residence and other local community organisations. The outdoor event costs are greater than ever, including the venue hire at the seafront. Aysegul Epengin, the director of the Portsmouth Film Society said,
‘We are sincerely apology to our audience for that we cannot provide cheap tickets anymore because hire and security costs are very high. We are continuing to serve voluntarily, and we hope we cover our all costs of the outdoor cinema events, including the drive-in cinema will take place on 21st July at the Southsea Common. If we have sponsors, we will offer reduced tickets to public in the May period.’
Please bring your picnic and folding chairs/blankets for our event. Hambledon Vineyard will have their food and drink in their location, no picnic and drink allowed.
